The Whistleblower Protection Act, Evaluated By SEC Whistleblowers

By Bob Oliver

It's clear that SEC whistleblowers are helped and guarded by a number of guidelines. I am sure that there are those who have been helped, whether job-related or otherwise, because of these and this is one of the many reasons why I feel like it's vital to go over the Whistleblower Protection Act. For those who would like to know what this is all about, here are a couple of essential talking points designed to expand your understanding on the matter.

The Whistleblower Protection Act, for those who aren't in the know, is a law that helps to protect workers in federal government sectors. Specifically, they are able to disclose information about illegal activity inside of organizations, without the fear of being fired or let go from their positions. For many SEC whistleblowers, this is one of the biggest concerns to talk about. Fortunately, there are other details to consider, as told by authorities like Whistleblowers Against Fraud.

The WPA was passed, by U.S. Congress, in 1989 and this was a protective measure for SEC whistleblowers. It made it so that the aforementioned individuals could not be punished or even retaliated against for drawing attention to legal issues. If they were, the WPA - in addition to its various guidelines - would come into the picture. Of course, there are still issues which involve these men and women losing their jobs. You may wonder why this problem continues to exist.

If you were to ask me, why these problems continue to believe, I'd like to think that a good part of the problem lies in the lack of awareness. Keep in mind that not everyone knows their rights and SEC whistleblowers are no different. As one can imagine, this is one of the most important reasons why the WPA is so essential. Without it, you will have very little idea as to what, exactly, you have as far as rights are concerned.

Simply put, these men and women should not fear the idea of punishment for doing jobs they believe to be noble. There are problems which exist in these sectors, meaning that there is not only a need for proactive measures but rules designed to protect those who go about said measures. With this in mind, it's easy to see why the WPA is so important. If this is focused on, there's no doubt that greater knowledge will be seen.
